Giuseppe Lucatelli, Italy

Giuseppe Lucatelli was born on 16th March 1751 in Mogliano, a little city near Tolentino where his father
Filippo worked as doctor. He has been considered a citizen of Tolentino because his family was native of Tolentino and here he worked during his life.

In 1776, when he was 25 years old, Giuseppe Lucatelli arrived in Rome where he studied Architecture, Math and Philosophy. He was friend of Anton Raphael Mengs, great painter and German art historian that introduced him to Neoclassicism, the new art after Baroque.

In 1780 Giuseppe Lucatelli painted Madonna dell‘Ulivo – The Virgin Mary of olive for Filoni family, that is today in Saint Nicola’s church.

In Tolentino the name of Lucatelli is remembered as an architect and a painter for the theatre «Nicola Vaccaj» inaugurated on 10 September 1797, S. Nicola’s religious holiday.
